Direct promotion is the biggest difference
A character that unlocks direct promotion can be advanced with Power Credits once the required conditions are met. A character without direct promotion needs extra copies, which makes the source of those copies the real bottleneck.
That is why two equally strong Gold cards can have completely different Elite X difficulty.
The hardest groups to promote
- Online Battle reward characters — every extra copy depends on the season returning and earning the necessary rank.
- Restricted pack characters — the first copy or later copies may depend on limited store availability.
- Metal characters — promotion uses multiple copies and Nth Metal pack luck rather than ordinary direct promotion.
- Old or unusual unlock characters — some legacy acquisition methods are no longer as convenient as they once were.
Examples players commonly struggle with
- Blackest Night Flash — a sought-after Online Battle reward; building many copies naturally takes multiple rotations.
- Ares Prime — another Online Battle card whose promotion pace is controlled by the cycle.
- Reverse Flash and Metahuman Flash — similarly dependent on Online Battle availability.
- Batman / Arkham Knight and Batman / Dawn of Justice — restricted acquisition makes normal promotion especially slow.
- Metal characters such as Batman Ninja Catwoman — strong cards, but repeated copies can require a large Nth Metal investment.
Remember: Elite X also needs Breakthrough
For eligible Gold characters, reaching beyond Elite VII requires Breakthrough access. So even when copies or direct promotion are available, Elite X is a separate progression step from ordinary promotion.
If you already own an eligible Gold character and only need the promotion/level step completed, SlepyInjustice also lists a Breakthrough service separately from Max Augments.
Plan around the final goal
Before spending credits or Nth Metal, decide whether you want a collection copy, an Elite VII build or a complete Elite X Level 60 character. The cheapest first copy is not always the cheapest path to the final build.
